PEAK’S PEOPLE, PLACES AND EVENTS

I’m not suggesting that all the coolest and best spots are only located on one street.

That is rarely, if ever, true for any town. And it's not the case for Squamish.

But I am advocating that a certain street here in downtown Squamish has an incredible number of amazing spots.

Most people might argue that it is Cleveland Ave. And this would be hard to dispute.

It is the “main drag”. There are countless wonderful shops, restaurants and other stores on that street.

But I’m talking about 2nd Ave.

There are so many amazing shops, stores, restaurants and more. Some of these businesses have been on this street for over a decade.

The little Bookshop is one of the greatest additions to our Community. With a focus on ways to talk about ‘the big things’ with our little ones.

There is a great selection of books for people of all ages and it's such a cozy spot to spend time in.

Julie and her husband Paul have put so much love and care into this shop. You can genuinely feel it when you walk in.

O’Callaghans Barber Shop is amazing.

You’d think you’re entering an Irish pub but instead, you’re about to get a great haircut in one of the most welcoming shops I’ve seen for fades or a traditional trim.

Liam is the owner & operator. Living and loving the Squamish lifestyle with his wife and dogs.

And since we are in the dog days of summer… how could I not mention alice & BROHM's second location?

This is legit, New Zealand style ice cream made right here in Squamish. Made to order with real BC fruit and BC Dairy.

Not your average ice cream.

And it’s bloody addictive. You’ll love every bite. (if you haven’t already had tons)

1914 is the best coffee shop in Squamish. (Second to us…maybe?)

He definitely carries the best beans in town.

I realize that is a bold statement… but I believe it to be true.

Mike has been located on 2nd Ave. since 2014 and continues to educate us all about some of the best beans we are able to buy from his location.

He’s always got new stuff coming in. And he can teach you more about coffee in a 5-minute conversation than you’ve collectively learned to date.

Right across the road from Mike is Saha Eatery. Squamish’s very own Lebanese/Mediterranean inspired location.

Healthy and very delicious food.

Noble House Hair Salon is not only an amazing spot to get your hair did… they are awesome people who love to eat all our muffins here at Peak.

And all the way down on the far edge of this street is Cliffside Cidery. Which, in my opinion, has the best cider in town.

I could keep going.

There are so many more incredible businesses here on this street alone. But I think you get where I’m heading with this.

I love where we landed and I love our neighbours.

Check out more of what 2nd Ave has in store for you.

PROVISIONS WE LOVE

It’s called “the holy grail of raw milk cheeses”.

I’m totally serious… not even joking.

The cows are brought down from the Alpage (that’s the mountain pastures) to the valley.

It is made from cow's milk in Switzerland or France and usually in the villages of the Jura Region.

It’s typically produced between August 15 and March 15. And only sold between September 10 through May 10.

We won’t see this delicacy over in these parts of the world until December most likely. And then, it will be all gone before February for sure.

The Swiss Vacherin Mont d’Or is generally made with Thermized milk (pasteurization is not allowed).

And the French version of nearly the exact same cheese, Vacherin du Haut-Doubs, is also unpasteurized.

There are strict laws in both Switzerland and France around the production of this glorious cheese. Not too dissimilar to the wine regions of France.

Let’s not forget… the Swiss and the French have been arguing for centuries about the origin of this glorious, goopy golden cheese.

I’m not really sure goopy is a word you’d want to typically use when talking about food. But it is perfect for describing this royal delight.

I’m almost drooling writing about it… I can’t wait to have some.

It’s incredible with baby potatoes. And even more so with warm crunchy bread or baguette.

This wheel of goodness is ripened for about three weeks in spruce boxes. Then packaged and shipped in beautiful circular wooden containers.

You bake it and serve it warm. I can almost guarantee that once it’s out of the oven, it will be gone in minutes.

This year I’m offering the opportunity for you to get in on the Peak Provisions pre-order with our supplier.

As I mentioned earlier… this is the cheese of royalty. And it comes at a bit of a price.

But worth every single dollar.

650 grams of this glorious cheese is $120 CAD

And you can pre-order as many as you like through Peak Provisions.

Tell me your name, order amount, your phone number and how excited you are to eat this amazing cheese.

Order now and if this is successful for everyone, we’ll do more stuff like this in the not-too-distant future.

I will be ordering some for the store as well… but I know they’ll be gone the day that they arrive.

AT THE BAR

The team is growing with great people.

The products being sourced are of the best quality for you. And we continue to strive for consistency with the products and options available.

And you’ve asked a few times now about dinners… as in, when will we be offering them?

I can finally tell you, they are coming this fall (exact date TBC).

But here is what you can expect and what nights we’ll be offering dinners:

Thursday evenings - Pasta Night and half-price wine.

You can bet that the Queen of Langhe will be making an appearance on at least one (or a few) Thursday evenings

Friday evenings - Tapas Night.

Small shared dishes and delicious bite-sized appy’s. Sample as many dishes to your heart’s content.

Saturday evenings - Aprés Ski Night Fondue (even if it’s not a ski day yet)

Warm yourself up with delicious fondue and bevy’s after a day on the mountain or a day doing chores.

Monday evenings - Staff meal

If you ever worked in the restaurant industry you know all about staff meal.

Staff gets served this right before or just after service.

It’s typically served ‘a la familia styles’ (large platters of food, shared at the table) and its always delicious. But also has a “whatever is in the fridge” kinda vibe to it.

We think you’re gonna love this one. And on Mondays, it’s kinda nice to not have to cook at home.

Stay tuned for the exact kick-off date of Peak Provisions Dinner Service.

We will let you know here first (via email). And on Social Media as well.

That’s all I’ve got for now.

In the meantime, don’t be a stranger.

Come in and hang out with us at the bar soon.

We’ll be here waiting for you.
