PEAK’S PEOPLE, PLACES AND EVENTS

It is amazing to see our community rally and help those who need it.

With not just one, but TWO devastating situations surrounding the Seat to Sky Gondola cable. The team there, and the community as a whole, have come together and beat the odds to be back up and running again.

Some people are saying it's better than ever.

And now… in 2023, after three years of being unable to gather in large groups. The team at Sea to Sky Gondola created a new summer tradition.

The Sea to Sky Gondola Mountain Music Series.

Every Friday, from June 9 through September 8 there have been and will continue to be, live performances and concerts at the top of the Gondola overlooking that breathtaking view of the Howe Sound.

Catering to everyone's musical tastes. Genres ranging from Classic Rock, Blues, Modern-Acoustic, Celtic Rock, Country and more

With 8 amazing performances already in the rearview mirror, I’m looking forward to each remaining performance ahead of us over the next 6 weeks.

This Friday Aug4 I cannot wait to see Bluesberry Jam

They play timeless Blues, R&B and Rock classics. They have been performing for over 25 years now.

Founded by Keith Junkin, Woody Woodridge and Anita Makitalo in the early ’90s. They honour a genre of music that is at the root of nearly all radio hits ever released.

Blues, Jazz and R&B transcend time. The musical influence from these three genres is still seen today in all music. From Rap, to pop, country and rock and roll.

Bluesberry Jam plays incredible covers and of course, their own unforgettable originals.

With songs that everyone will know and love… this week's concert is going to be so fun to take in

Watching the sunset on the Howe Sound while dancing, singing and having an amazing time with friends and strangers alike.

This is summer at its finest in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Hope to see you there

PROVISIONS WE LOVE

Olive oil can truly make a dish.

It can bring plain veggies to life. And with the incredible local produce we have here, I want to taste the flavours of the veggies.

A proper extra virgin olive oil is one of the best things you can have at home.

For dipping bread in… drizzling on cheese and vegetables, or even sandwiches. You should have a few different types for different dishes and purposes.

Let's look at some good ones, shall we?

Ouro d’Olivia | Portugal | $15

This 100% cold-pressed, Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a Portuguese Gold Medal winner product. Selected from the highest quality olives in designated areas across Portugal. This olive oil is one of the best “bang for your buck” products you can add to your shelves at home. Use it for everything. From salad dressings to tapenades and bread dippin.

Partanna Asaro | Italy | $29

This 100% cold-pressed, Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a two-time Gold Medal winner from Italy. The Asaro family has been producing olive oil in Sicily since 1916. And this product is delicious. A little more expensive but very much worth it. I use this on its own, a lot. For Burrata or bread and it does really make a difference in a tapenade dish as well.

Nuńez De Prado Family Estate | Spain | $46.25

Nuńez De Prado is one of Spain's most famous olive oils. It is world-renowned. Their Extra Virgin olive oil has been featured on over 100 television shows and 800+ articles. That is their “everyday” Extra Virgin Olive oil… this one I’m sharing is 500 ml / 17 fl oz. It is the Family Estate Grop batch. Its hand-selected, bottled and each bottled is numbered at the Estate. This one is fancy… and a bit spency. Worth every penny and every drop is absolutely delicious.

We’ve got so many more options on the shelves but I wanted to share a few with you today.

More oils will always be added to the rotation here. So come in to talk olive oil with us and pick some up for your shelves at home.

AT THE BAR

Seriously though… whats with the fish holding photos? It cracks me up.

I like fishing.

Catch and release here on the Squamish River and its tributaries.

Catch and keep on the deep water ocean fishing adventures. These are the freshest and best-tasting fish you might ever get to eat.

But I also love tinned fish.

Yeah… fish from a can. It's amazing.

I’m not talking about North American tinned sardines that make most people want to run away and never eat fish again.

Look past those myths.

I’m talking proper European-style conservas. Tinned fish done right.

The Spaniards have essentially perfected this. And Peak Provisions not only carries tinned fish… we serve it on our menu.

The Spanish Conservas is one of my favourite snacks.

With bread or potato chips. Pickles and hot sauce.

It’s like I’m almost back in Spain… but I’m really here on Second Ave.

Sardines in tomato sauce. Sardines in olive oil. Tuna belly in olive oil and spices.

These are incredible summertime tapas. I even love them in the winter.

So if your situation is similar to mine this summer and you're unable to make it to Spain… come in and enjoy the tinned fish at the bar.

Or take some home to have on your hike or while you sit in the sun on your patio.

Be sure to grab a tasty bottle of white wine while you’re here in the store as well. Nothing goes better with tinned fish than white wine or a good Spanish Sherry.

It's time to look past those cliches and childhood beliefs that “sardines and sherry are disgusting!”

Cause they aren’t.

When done right… they are a delicacy. Delicious and very much a summertime classic.

In the meantime, don’t be a stranger.

Come in and hang out with us at the bar soon.

We’ll be here waiting for you.
