PEAK’S PEOPLE, PLACES AND EVENTS

Back in 1992 a few trailblazers and their friends were advocates at the forefront of a budding sport. It wasn't really well not well known yet but here in Squamish its popularity was exploding.

These pioneers knew that the sport surrounding these “fat tire bikes” was about to take off.

They also knew that Squamish and the surrounding Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw Xay Temixw territory of the Squamish Nation was a continental epicentre for this sport to explode.

I’m talking about mountain biking.

One of the many outdoor activities people from around the globe come here to experience.

Squamish has some of the best trails in all of Canada, the PNW, and some would even argue… all of North America.

And in Squamish, you can’t say the words “mountain biking” and not think of SORCA.

For those who don’t know, SORCA stands for Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association.

The mountain biking folk.

Fast forward 30+ years, and now SORCA has 3400+ members and a paid trail crew of 6 staff members.

Today the SORCA Board of Directors, volunteers and local businesses continue to work through partnerships with the District of Squamish, Squamish Nation, and Trails BC.

These partnerships and efforts are what have enabled the Squamish mountain bike community to thrive. It just gets bigger and better every year.

Now, SORCA hosts tons of weekly events like the SORCA Social Rides on Wednesdays. One of which I served hot dogs at last Wednesday, June 28.

These rides are for all levels. Beginners through to the double black diamond mountain biking animals.

This coming July 12th the SORCA Cinco series continues. And the Peak Provisions trailer will be there with Wagyu dogs and other goodies.

The full details surrounding the July 12th Cinco be released one week before the event on their website. And follow them on IG @squamishbikes

The Cinco hosted on June 7th was a massive success. The pre-registration sold out well in advance of the race. And they kept 20 spots available for “same-day” registration with Apres access and all.

It makes me so happy to be able to partner with this organization. To work with them in any capacity is infectious.

They are a super fun and community-focused tribe.

This group of humans absolutely loves where we live. And mountain biking is not only their vehicle to explore this area. It’s a tool that continues to grow our Sea to Sky community.

Come and check out any of the amazing SORCA events. You can find them all on their website. Even if you don’t take part in the race or ride… the apres is always a good time too.

PROVISIONS WE LOVE

Speaking of the Peak Provisions trailer and our ever-popular Wagyu dogs…

I wanted to make sure you know that they are always available for you.

Seriously though… you can even take em home now.

Peak Provisions will always have the Wagyu dog on the menu. And they are also available now in our frozen section at the store.

Grab some for your backyard BBQ or to bring to the river for your next water-side picnic.

These dogs are sourced and brought to the shop by Legends Haul.

But I also wanted to let you know that Legends Haul sources them from an amazing Canadian butcher. Kingsway Finest Meats.

These guys are incredible.

And if you want Wagyu cuts of beef or large format orders of this delicacy… get your credit card ready.

Worth every penny of course. They have some of the best selections of Canadian Wagyu you could possibly imagine.

They have so many other amazing products as well. But the Wagyu is top shelf for sure.

The next time you come by the store, grab a package of the most popular hot dogs in Squamish.

I will always have them for you.

AT THE BAR

Yes… I’m still talking about salads.

Summer has just started and it is the Summer of Salads after all (as declared by me).

But this week I’m talking about the Peak Salad in particular… for two reasons.

Reason one - it has been a big success. A new fan favourite and we are happy you love it.

I’m not shocked. All the greens and veg are from North Arm Farm and that place rules! You can reference my other newsletters singing their praises.

The greens and veg are the stars of the show if ya ask me.

But we’ve been getting lots of questions about the dressing. And, as always, we hear you.

Reason two - “When are you gonna start your own line of Peak Products already?”

I’m always flattered and excited when you ask these types of questions. And when I hear this in the middle of the day (or any time) it makes me happy to know you love what we are putting together for you.

The dressing on the Peak Salad is one of my favs.

This is my little twist on a classic “house-made” mustard vinaigrette. And this has led to a bunch of people asking…

“When are the Peak Dressings gonna be on the shelves?”

So I thought I’d ask you… should we start our own line of products?

Dressing first? Is there something else from the Bar or menu you’d like to see bottled up or packaged so you can bring it home with you?

Or to bring on your next adventure?

Drop me a line and let me know your thoughts.

It can be a three-word sentence or a small novel. I genuinely love hearing from you.

In the meantime, don’t be a stranger.

Come in and hang out with us at the bar soon.

We’ll be here waiting for you.
