PEAK’S PEOPLE, PLACES AND EVENTS

What does community mean to you?

Everyone is different. We all have our own idea or belief surrounding the “definition” of community.

Here is mine…

To be a part of a real community, you need to care about what you have in common. And you can’t just care about “the community”. You need to be caring and respectful of the people in it.

Every one of us is unique. We should celebrate and nurture our differences. Because these unique attributes help create a diverse and growing community.

The Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association (DSBIA) does an incredible job of this.

Their goal is to diversify the downtown economy. They aim to do this by attracting new and different businesses to the downtown core.

The DSBIA is able to support the local individuals and entrepreneurs bringing businesses here to Squamish.

These budding business people are what makes our community unique. They provide jobs for locals, spaces for gathering and so much more.

The DSBIA helped me. They continue to support Peak Provisions and all the other businesses you love down here.

The DSBIA is a team of an elected board of Directors and an elected President.

The day-to-day operations of the DSBIA are run by the Executive Director. This Director receives support from the elected board members.

The board members are currently active business owners/operators in downtown Squamish. Or they have owned/operated a business here or elsewhere. They understand and care about our community's growth. They understand what it is like to be a small business owner.

On Saturday, July 1st of this year, the DSBIA is organizing SKWXWÚ7MESH SQUAMISH TOGETHER - a celebration of community. Remembering our past, honouring our traditional lands and paving the way for the future of Squamish.

This event will have so many fun things to do - options for the whole family.

This will be a full-day event at the park on Cleveland Ave and throughout the downtown core.

Musical guests will be on the stage in Junction Park all day long, with a beer garden, and numerous food trucks.

Peak Provisions food truck will be there providing Waygu Dogs and sandwiches to go with your tasty local beers.

The DSBIA truly cares about Squamish as a whole.

This group of individuals really does move the needle for community growth here. They care about you and me… and it shows.

Be sure to come down and enjoy the festivities.

PROVISIONS WE LOVE

Spring and summer mean you have access to the freshest local produce.

I love fresh veggies and greens. And how about barbeque corn and carrots?

Let's not forget the fruit.

Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries… peaches! The fruit alone does it for me.

I know I’ve spoken of them before, but North Arm Farm is the Sea to Sky family farm.

I’m so excited to bring you their products and now produce too.

You can still pick up their amazing eggs here. And we’ll be offering all the salad greens like arugula, leaf lettuce and a selection of veggies to name a few items.

It will change up fairly regularly. Based on what they have available and what is still fresh each week.

While I do love going to the farmers market every Saturday… I’m looking forward to providing you with access to the freshest items daily.

I’ll still hit up the farmer's market on the weekend too. I love supporting the vendors and running into everyone to see what you are buying.

But I’m genuinely excited about bringing North Arm Farms produce to the store.

To me, there is nothing better than farm-fresh fruit and veggies on a sunny summer night.

AT THE BAR

Do you like warm summer nights?

How about sipping delicious cocktails with your friends?

It really is the simple things... ya know?

We’ve got an amazing summer cocktail list coming your way and I just couldn’t wait to tell you about it. (I’ve also been sampling them… quality control and stuff).

Sangria - Red & White

I love this cocktail (when it’s done correctly). It originated in Spain… so the Spaniards will tell you. But the Portuguese will tell you that they are the original creators of this summertime classic. Either way, I love both versions and we are gonna make it taste fantastic.

Pimm’s Cup

An absolute classic created by a London barkeep named James Pimm in the 1830s. There have been many iterations of the Pimm’s Cup. But now, most of us know it as Pimm’s No.1 (essentially a Gin-based liqueur) served over ice, topped with sparkling lemonade and a slice of cucumber. We will serve it up right. You won’t be court-side at Wimbledon to enjoy it. But you can pony up to the patio bar and take in the sights of 2nd Ave though.

Aperol Spritz

This Northeastern Italian classic is loved by many (including me). The “original” was coined the Spritz Venezio and created in Venice. It was made with Select Bitters, Prosecco and a splash of soda water. The newer version consists of Aperol, Prosecco and a splash of sparkling water. It is difficult to have just one. So I recommend coming in and having many.

Obviously… Margs

I mean, come on. Margaritas are summer. And they are delicious all year long. But they taste extra special when it’s hot and you are chillin’ on a patio. Nothing more needed to be said about this incredible cocktail.

These four summertime classic beverages will be served through Labour Day weekend. Be sure to come and enjoy them every chance you get.

In the meantime, don’t be a stranger.

Come in and hang out with us at the bar soon.

We’ll be here waiting for you.
